Geoecologist

Expert’s bio

Dr Danzer is founder and managing director of the consulting company boden & grundwasser Allgaeu GmbH in Sonthofen, Germany (since 2004). His special focus and experience is on the behavior of contaminants in soil and groundwater systems. He is a certified expert for groundwater risk assessment at contaminated sites according to German soil protection law (notification by Bavarian Environmental State Office). He is experienced assessing soil vapor intrusion into buildings as well as contaminants within building stock and indoor air such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs) or asbestos.

Since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020 Dr. Danzer is advocating for consequent protection from SARS CoV2, because the risk associated with the virus – particularly with respect to LongCovid – is orders of magnitudes higher compared to the risks of the environmental contaminants he typically assesses.

Beside risk assessment he is a senior consultant in the field of deconstruction planning of buildings with respect to contaminants, expert monitoring of construction sites (soil science), numerical groundwater modeling, designing of drinking water protection areas, geographical information systems (GIS), management of mineral wastes and near surface geothermal energy.

Dr. Danzer has teaching assignments from the Bavarian School of Administration and the Austrian Federal Academy of Administration. Following a training in Brussels, Belgium 2010 he has been passionate about the art of hosting and he likes to design and host participative/collaborative processes and events.

He is on the advisory board of the association of certified Soil Experts in Germany (V18) and member of the German Associations of Soils (BVB), Engineering of Contaminated Sites (ITVA), Hydrogeology (FH-DGGV) and Contaminants Remediation (GVSS) as well as the Austrian Association of Contaminated Sites Management (ÖVA).

Dr. Danzer received his diploma degree in Geoecology from the University of Bayreuth in 1993 with research on co-transport of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and dissolved organic matter (DOM) in soils and his doctoral degree at the Applied Geosciences chair from the University of Tuebingen in 1997. Here his research was on coupled transport of surfactants and PAHs in natural aquifer materials as well as parameter identification and co-creation of the stream tube model of advective and reactive transport (SMART).

In his postdoctoral fellowship – also at the University of Tuebingen – he did applied research on middle phase microemulsions for surfactant enhanced subsurface remediation at sites of the automotive industry in cooperation with a visiting professor of the University of Oklahoma. He conducted partitioning and interfacial tracer tests at a former gasworks site at Kehl, Germany after a surfactant flushing test. For the technology transfer company of the Applied Geoscience Chair he did tracer tests and numerical groundwater modeling for risk-assessment at a site of the automotive industry in Cologne, Germany.
